About Magnificent Nest
Hi, I'm Cathy! I started Magnificent Nest in November of 2021. I had decided to leave my office job, after the craziness of the pandemic, and I knew I was finally ready to start my own business. I've always been drawn to classic style and antiques. As a kid, I remember stopping at "tag sales" with my mom. She would explain that we could go in the houses to shop because anything with a tag was for sale! (Those old tag sales are the estate sales of today.) Years later, I would enjoy treasure hunting furniture in antique stores with my husband, thrift shopping with my daughter, as she looked for unique clothes and quirky knick knacks, and auctions with my son, admiring original artwork and amazing collectible pieces. Magnificent Nest was born after realizing I enjoyed treasure hunting with my family on the weekends and could see the beauty in the vintage pieces we found. I realized most items just needed a good shine to be brought back to their former glory. It felt like recycling in a way. Interesting tidbit is that my mother-in-law was an antique dealer for many years. Having her expertise has been helpful and also fun to have her to discuss items with! So with my family as my cheering squad, I started my Etsy shop in November 2021. Soon after, I started recieving messages from happy shoppers. They were finding things they had as a kid, or a tea set their mom had, or a favorite Christmas ornament that broke, and I knew I was on to something. In April of 2022, I expanded to a booth at our local Painted Tree here in Virginia Beach. In February of 2023, I expanded again, this time to a booth at Hunt & Gather in nearby Norfolk, VA. It's now October of 2024 and the creation and launch of my long planned website. Stay tuned for what's next! An update for 2026, after a decision to leave the Norfolk store in January and then the unexpected national closing of every Painted Tree in April, Magnificent Nest was on the search for a new home. In May of 2026, the new home for Magnificent Nest is locally owned VA Vintage!! Pictured above, myself at my booth location at Painted Tree.
